Dementia Friendly North Sheffield Newsletter September 2019

Welcome to the third Dementia Friendly North Sheffield Newsletter, dedicated to sharing news about our efforts to make north Sheffield dementia friendly!

It’s been a busy month and lots of useful links and conversations have been happening.

The big piece of news for this month is that SOAR’s small grant scheme will be opening in the next few weeks, and will include a distinct pot for work around Dementia. Start thinking about what projects you’d like to get started and have a chat with Rosie if this sounds interesting.

Thanks as always for your support. Keep up the hard work and keep spreading the word!

We’ve also now got a Facebook page, so please like and share.

Each People Keeping Well Partnership has a steering group to direct our work and to work towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Community. Please come along and get involved. Please make sure you’ve attended a Dementia Friends Information Session before you attend a steering group.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY GROUPS
If you’ve got a group and aren’t really sure how to make it Dementia Friendly, or aren’t even sure what a Dementia Friendly group would look like, then get in touch.

If you’re already a Dementia Friendly group, make sure to let us know as we’re currently pulling together a list of Dementia Friendly Groups in the area.

PARSON CROSS DEVELOPMENT FORUM
There’s some great Dementia friendly events coming up at Parson Cross Forum:

You can also now find other services on the Dementia Directory.

The Dementia Directory is now up and running in Sheffield. It’s a tool for people to search for Dementia specific services and support in the area.

Spread the word, and make sure your groups are on there (Rosie has a log in if you need some help putting your services on).

Each Dementia Star award (Bronze/Silver/Gold) involves attending a 2-hour interactive and experiential training session, delivered by Enrichment for the Elderly.

These bite-sized chunks allow delegates to learn at their own pace. The awards are designed to follow on to each other after each delegate has attended a dementia friends information session.
