We are a city-wide involvement and influencing forum that aims to provide opportunities for people living with Dementia in Sheffield (and their family carers).

Around 40 people living with Dementia and family members or supporters attend each SHINDIG at the Quaker Meeting House in the city centre.

All meetings take place at the Quaker Meeting House from 1pm-3.15pm.

After a sandwich lunch people with Dementia are able to choose whether to work in a smaller group with other people with Dementia or in a group with their family member or supporter.

SHINDIG is jointly organised by Sheffield Alzheimer’s Society and Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.

A smaller group of members meet before each SHINDIG to help plan and choose the topic for discussion at the group.

What people say at SHINDIG is shared in a report and sent to relevant people and organisations.

These are available on the SHINDIG webpage available at: http://goo.gl/P9kJYb

Topics SHINDIG has informed on include:

  • Experience of GP services
  • What helps and hinders keeping active
  • Informing Sheffield Dementia Strategy
  • Advice to staff on how to seek feedback from people with dementia
  • Experiences and tips on living with dementia.

We meet 4 times a year (usually a Thursday in March, June, September and December) and welcome people living with dementia of any age living in Sheffield.

Due to the demand it is important to book a place at SHINDIG through Jo Wallace at Sheffield Alzheimer’s Society 0114 276 8414.

Our logo relates to the phrase used at most SHINDIGs

‘We’re all in the same boat here’.
